You have a garage, a rental, or a whole house to clear out. So how much does junk removal cost, and could you do it cheaper yourself?

You really have three choices. You can use the free city pickup, haul it yourself, or pay a crew. Each one makes sense for a different kind of job. This guide walks through all three with honest numbers. Want a real price today? Call (979) 985-6541 for a free quote.

How Much Does Junk Removal Cost in Bryan-College Station?

Our junk removal has a $125 minimum, and you pick the one item it covers. Add $20 to $30 for every other furniture piece or appliance, and $10 per tire. A full 15-yard load is a flat $650, no matter what fills it. You get a free quote before any work starts.

Those are the posted rates on our junk removal pricing page, which has the full item list. This post does not repeat that whole table. Instead, it helps you decide whether you should pay anyone at all.

Can You Get Rid of Junk for Free First?

Sometimes, yes, and you should know about it before you pay anyone. Both Bryan and College Station run curbside pickup for bulky items and brush. If your load fits their rules and you can wait for your pickup day, the city may be your cheapest choice.

What does Bryan pick up at the curb?

The City of Bryan collects brush and bulky trash every week. Its limit is 22 cubic yards or one truck load per home. Anything past that costs a fee, or you can haul it to Twin Oaks Landfill yourself. The details are on the City of Bryan brush and bulky trash page.

Bryan has timing and placement rules, too. Items go out by 7 a.m. (6 a.m. from June through August). Keep them 5 feet from buildings, fences, cars, and meters, and never on the street or sidewalk. Fridges, freezers, and AC units carry a removal fee even when they are empty, unless they were certified in advance.

What does College Station pick up at the curb?

College Station collects bulky items like furniture and appliances, but brush and bulky items must sit in separate piles. Brush is capped at 10 total bags, bundles or cans, and bags must weigh less than 50 pounds. Appliances that held freon need a tag showing a technician removed the refrigerant. You can check every rule on the College Station trash and recycling FAQ.

College Station will not collect construction or demolition debris with bulky items. That rule is in the bulk and brush section of the College Station household waste guide.

When does the free route stop making sense?

City pickup is great for a couch at a house on your own schedule. It works less well when the date is fixed, the pile breaks the rules, or the items sit inside an upstairs unit. In those cases, a paid hauler starts to earn its price.

What Does DIY Junk Removal Really Cost?

DIY looks simple on paper. You rent a truck, load it up, and drive to the landfill. The rental rate is the number everyone sees first, but it is only one line on a longer bill.

Here is what usually goes into a DIY cleanout:

  • The truck. Rental rates and mileage fees vary, so ask about every charge before you sign.
  • Gas. You pay for each trip to the dump and back.
  • Dump fees. Landfills charge to take your load, so check their posted rates before you go.
  • Extra trips. A garage that looks like one load often turns into two or three.
  • Supplies. Dollies, straps, gloves, and tarps cost money if you do not already own them.

Some items need their own stop. Bryan runs a tire drop-off at 1111 Waco Street that takes up to eight used tires per visit from Bryan residents. Light- and medium-duty tires must be off the rim. Hours and rules are on the City of Bryan recycling page. Our BCS disposal and recycling guide lists other drop-off spots in Brazos County.

What Changes the Price of a Haul?

Every job is a little different, and a few things move the total up or down. Knowing them helps you read a quote and plan your own budget.

What Hidden Costs Come With DIY?

Some costs never show up on a receipt, but they still belong in the total. Count them before you compare a DIY plan with our quote.

Your time is the biggest one. Loading, driving, waiting in line, and unloading can eat a whole Saturday. A bigger job can take the full weekend.

Your body pays a price, too. Couches, mattresses, and old appliances are heavy and awkward. A pulled back costs far more than a haul ever would.

Your own vehicle can take a beating. Trip after trip in your SUV means scratched trim, torn seats, and extra miles on the engine. If the landfill turns an item away, you also get to haul it home again.

When Is Hiring a Pro Worth It?

Hiring a crew wins once the job needs more than one trip. It also wins when items are too heavy to lift alone. A deadline from a landlord, a buyer, or a moving truck is another strong reason, since that date will not wait for your third dump run.

Count your time and your back as real costs, and the math shifts. Weigh a flat $650 full load against several dump runs, a few tanks of gas, and a lost weekend. For a big job, the flat rate is often the better deal.

Here is what you get when you call BCS:

  1. A free quote first. It costs you nothing to ask.
  2. Posted prices. You can check our rates online before you call.
  3. We do the lifting. Our crew loads and hauls everything away.
  4. We reuse when we can. Usable pieces can go to Habitat for Humanity or Goodwill through our donation partners.

Is a Live Load a Good Middle Ground?

For many people in Aggieland, it is. A driver brings a 15-yard container and waits while you load it. When time is up, the driver hauls it away, so the job wraps up the same day.

You do the loading, so you save on labor. Nothing sits in your driveway for days, which helps in neighborhoods that frown on a parked dumpster. You get 45 minutes for $325 or 90 minutes for $385, with weight up to one ton included. Not sure which option fits? Our guide to dumpster rental vs. junk removal vs. live load compares all three, and our dumpster rental pricing guide covers the rental side in more depth.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it cheaper to rent a truck and haul junk myself?

For one small, light item, doing it yourself can be cheaper. For bigger jobs, the costs pile up fast. You pay for the truck, gas, dump fees, and every extra trip. You also spend your own time and energy. Add it all up and compare it to a flat-rate haul before you decide.

What is the cheapest way to get rid of a lot of junk?

Start with your city’s curbside bulky pickup if your pile fits its rules and you can wait. If you will load it yourself, a dumpster or a live load usually costs less than a full haul. If you want us to do all the lifting, a full 15-yard load is one flat $650.

Do you charge extra for tires or appliances?

Yes. Tires add $10 each because they need extra processing at the landfill. Furniture and appliances add $20 to $30 each. Those charges go on top of the $125 minimum. If your item is not listed on our pricing page, ask us and we will price it for you.

Can I get a quote before you start?

Yes. Every job starts with a free quote, so you see the price before any work begins. Tell us what you have, how many pieces there are, and whether there are stairs. The more we know up front, the more accurate your quote will be.

How far ahead do I need to book junk removal?

Three to five days ahead is what we prefer for both hauls and dumpsters. Same-day service may be possible when our equipment is free. The best way to find out is to call. We are open Monday through Saturday, 8 AM to 9 PM.

What happens if I need to cancel?

Plans change, and our 24-hour cancellation policy covers that. Cancel inside that 24-hour window and half of the appointment total is still due. Let us know as soon as your plans change, and we will help you pick a new time.
